Hands are the backbone of the Counter-Strike interface. But the location of the model is not suitable for all players. This is easy to fix, thanks to the variability of the game settings.
Changing the position of the hands is available through the console. The window is called by clicking on the tilde “~”. There is also a map for customizing hands in CS:GO. With its help, you can quickly change not only hands but also the crosshair.
To quickly change the position of the hands, there are the following commands:
|Switch to the right hand||cl_righthand 0|
|Switch to the left hand||cl_righthand 1|
|Reset settings||viewmodel_presetpos 1|
Commands for switching hands in CS:GO
Setting up the hand model in CS:GO is controlled by the viewmodel command group. Before starting the changes, you need to enter the viewmodel_presetpos 0 code into the console to save the settings after restarting the game.
Adjusting the position of the hands in the CS:GO
The viewmodel_offset_x command controls the horizontal adjustment of the position of the hands in the CS:GO. The value is set from -2 to 2.5. The position of the hands is counted from the starting point.
Vertical hand adjustment in CS GO is controlled by the viewmodel_offset_z tool. The change is permissible in the range from -2 to 2.
The viewmodel_offset_y is responsible for the distance or approximation of the model. The value fork is similar to the vertical command. The viewmodel_fov code with parameters from 54 (zoom in) to 68 (zoom out) is also involved in scaling.
Changing the grip of a weapon is done with the cl_righthand tool. A value of 0 and 1 switches to the left and right positions, respectively.
The scale of the hands during movement is adjusted with the cl_bob_lower_amt code with values from 5 to 30.
Weapon swings during shift – cl_viewmodel_shift_right_amt (0.5 and -2) and cl_viewmodel_shift_left_amt (0.25 and -2). Minimum values reduce the animation of the barrel in motion.
Enabling and disabling the reaction of the weapon to hitting the body adjusts the viewmodel_recoil parameter to 1 or 0, respectively.
Configuring the hands of CS:GO can also take place in automatic mode: these commands can be bound to keyboard hotkeys or mouse buttons.
There are presets from CS:GO developers. Some of the above settings are tied to them:
- viewmodel_presetpos 1 – arms are exposed by default;
- viewmodel_presetpos 2 – the trunk is zoomed in and out;
- viewmodel_presetpos 3 – Changes the default Counter Strike Global Offensive hands to the model from 1.6.
You can change the preset at any time. It doesn’t matter if the map was used to set up hands in CS:GO. The values will also take their original form.

For one of the strongest CS:GO players, hand setting matters too. The Ukrainian sets the following parameters:

As you can see, the athlete is using the standard model for CS 1.6, large zoom, and disabled animation on hit.
Map for changing crosshair and hands in CS:GO
To visually change the CS:GO settings, there is a special map called Viewmodel Generator. In addition, there is a map in Steam for setting up hands position in CS:GO. Installation guide:
- Find the Viewmodel Generator map in the Steam Workshop.
- Click Subscribe.
- Go to CS:GO and select a maps mode from the Workshop.
- Start the game in single-player mode.
The map for setting hands position in CS:GO looks like a room with a visual display of console commands. You can change the position, display range, set ready-made presets.
However, the map in CS:GO for hand-tuning is incomplete without adjusting the crosshair and radar. For these purposes, you can use the Config Generator.
