«The International is a very status event. And besides the status and the fact that it needs to be carried out, there is also an essential legal point. This is holding the forty-million (meaning the prize pool of $ 40 + million – ed.) tournament in a country where tax policy is not transparent. We all love our country, but there is such a tax policy. None of the American companies would agree to do such a major tournament in a month. To do this, in my opinion, is impossible, and Valve, most likely, will not agree to this. If they do, I’ll be delighted, but it’s unlikely.

Therefore, I believe that Valve will look for convenient options from a logistics point of view. And if the Swedes do not change their mind and do not understand what is happening now, I think there are two obvious options – Copenhagen and Bucharest.»

It is also worth noting that recently it became known that Sweden refused Valve to give The International the status of a sporting event. In turn, this led to the fact that not the players, not other people involved in the event, will most likely not receive a visa to the country. Therefore, Valve is now looking for other options, in case, nevertheless, Sweden does not change its decision.

Several other countries have already offered their help, such as Germany and its Cybersport Federation, the Ukrainian company WePlay, and the Russian EEE.

If we consider Vitaly’s words, then he is certainly right, but still partly. “None of the American companies”, American companies do not need to hold the event. WePlay will be engaged in everything, as suggested, it is possible that the company can attract partners to be in time. Kyiv eSports Arena can host such a tournament, and in addition, most of the teams that will take part in The International were in Kyiv at Animajor.

Regarding the legal side of the issue, one thing: Ukraine will not be able to bite off more than China in 2019. In China, the tax on esports activities ranges from 3% to 45%. In Ukraine, the tax on esports activities ranges up to 20%.
