Ranks in CS: GO: rating and meaning

Skills and achievements of players in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are evaluated according to the internal system of Ranks and Levels. CS:GO Ranks allow everyone to determine the skill level of a gamer. It is a kind of marker for the system, thanks to which it positions the player in the game’s internal hierarchy. The indicator affects the distribution of competitive games on official servers. Players with one Level of play will play between gamers of about the same Level they are.

To find out your indicator, you need to open your profile in the game’s main menu. There are several Ranking systems in CS:GO:  partners (for special 2v2 mode) and standard mode (classic 5v5 game). They do not depend on each other. The level of skills in standard mode is considered a more meaningful indicator among gamers.

CS: GO Ranks and Levels: Players Hierarchy

The Levels of CS GO symbolizes the Level of experience that a player has behind him. The higher is the Level, the higher the experience. There are four dozen Levels in total, which can only be earned and raised in competitive battles on official maps. Based on Ranks and Levels, the system forms teams, selecting rivals and allies of approximately equal Level.

Ranks and Levels in the CS:GO can be divided into such groups (4 levels in each, except for colonels), corresponding to a typical army hierarchy:

  • recruits / privates;
  • corporals;
  • sergeants;
  • master sergeants;
  • sergeant majors;
  • lieutenants;
  • captains;
  • majors;
  • colonels (3 ranks);
  • generals;
  • Marshal (highest Rank).

By winning and gaining 5000 experience points, the gamer is promoted to the next Level. There is a reward for that, such as weapon skin or graffiti. If you reach the highest, 40th Rank in a year, you can reset the score by starting from the bottom and receiving a service medal in return. It has six levels in total.

CS: GO Rankings: Competitive mode

Rank CS: GO, in contrast to Levels, are less cumulative. Suppose the Levels can be increased by gaining experience, doing it in a circle (until the highest stage of the medal is won). In that case, the Ranks change in proportion to the current Level of experience and activity. That is, in the process of gaming, they can both rise and fall.

As of 2020, the standard competitive titles of CS: GO were divided into 18 levels:

  • Silver I
  • Silver II
  • Silver III
  • Silver IV
  • Silver Elite
  • Silver Elite Master
  • Gold Nova I
  • Gold Nova II
  • Gold Nova III
  • Gold Nova Master
  • Master Guardian
  • Master Guardian II
  • Master Guardian Elite
  • Distinguished Master Guardian
  • Legendary Eagle
  • Legendary Eagle Master
  • Supreme Master First Class
  • Global Elite (highest Rank)

Where:

  • 1–6 – Silver – entry-level players.
  • 7–10 – Gold Nova are good players who understand game mechanics.
  • 11-14 – Master Guardian (“Master Guardian”) – experienced gamers who have excellent game skills.
  • 15-16 – Eagle (“Berkut”) – high-level players surpass most of the opponents.
  • 17 – Supreme Master First Class (“Grand Master of the highest rank”) – top specialists in CS: GO.
  • 18 – Global Elite – the highest level gamers, professional esports players from the top teams, etc.

To upgrade your Rank, you need regular game practice. The system evaluates more correctly, gamers who play more often and demonstrate a stable or growing skill. If you stop in skill development, and you enter the servers from time to time, you should not count on a high rank.

To prove your skills, it is advisable to create teams with friends who have a similar skill level. After all, playing with random allies makes an excellent risk of constantly losing battles through disorganized or inept partners’ fault.

Ranks in the “Forbidden Zone”

In the special mode “Forbidden Zone,” there is a unique ranking system for players, different from the standard competitive one. In it, all players are divided into 15 classes plus two non-competitive ones (“no rank” for players without a level and “expired” for those who have not played for a long time):

  • 1-2 – “Lab Rat” (2 levels) – beginners.
  • 3-4 – “Sprinting Hare” (2 levels) – middle-class players.
  • 5-7 – “Wild Scout” (3 levels) – strong middle peasants.
  • 8-11 – “Hunter Fox” (3 levels) – experienced players.
  • 12-14 – “Wolf” (3 levels) – high-level gamers.
  • 15 – “Howling Alpha” (highest Rank) – elite players.
