Today we will talk about how to make the optimal settings for DotA 2 and make your game more comfortable. Everyone always wonders how to optimize DotA 2 to get only pleasure from the gameplay, and not to play a turn-based strategy. DotA 2 optimization will not take you much time if you know exactly what your computer is capable of, but still, I will try to explain with specific examples why using the optimal settings for DotA 2.
Let’s start with a pure, FPS, what it is, and how it affects the gameplay.
FPS or frames per second affects the picture itself, and specifically, the more frames per second you can squeeze out of your computer, the smoother the game will go. From this, it depends on how much the animation in the game will be stable.
Let us give an example of how the optimization of DotA 2 affects the gameplay, through a small FPS table.
FPS | What is? |
From 20 FPS and below | Non-playable |
From 20 FPS to 30 FPS | For stress-resistant |
30 FPS to 45 FPS | Playable |
45 FPS to 60 FPS | Smoothly |
60 FPS to 90 FPS | Almost Perfect |
From 90 FPS and above | Perfect |
By perfect, I mean the picture and the frame rate, like about pro players and cyber sportsmen.
Smooth picture displaying all the visual effects that are in the game.
Many now think, and how is it? How to optimize DotA 2, so that it looks perfect; the answer is simple, and you must include all the visual settings for a maximum. But, I warn you right away if the pricing policy of assembling your computer is lower than 1000 US dollars, I’ll hurry to upset you, most likely your iron comrade will not cope.
When we figured out what is frame rate, now move on to the graphical settings.
First of all, before you start with the game settings, you first need to deal with the computer itself.
Through the “Start” we go to the “Control Panel” we find “Advanced system settings,” go to the “Performance” tab and use the button “To ensure the best performance.” Then the magic begins, you turn off all the visual beauty of the computer itself, and at the same time reduce the load on the RAM and processor.
But do not immediately close this window. In the “Advanced” tab, select “Virtual memory”, then “Change”, in the “Automatically select paging file size” section, remove the checkmark, select the hard disk with the DotA directive, select “Specify size”, specify “8096” in the source and maximum windows, after clicking “Set” and “OK”, you can restart the computer so that the settings take effect.
Next, we also need to set the launch parameters of the game, which will also give us a little more performance.
To do this, open Steam, set up the DotA in the library, select the properties with the left mouse button, and set the following parameters for starting the game:
+ dota_embers 0 + engine_no_focus_sleep -console -high -novid + fps_max 120 -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -freq 60.
These simple commands will also significantly affect how the game will look and at the same time, minimize the load on the computer.
The developers worked hard so that you would not have to think for a long time, which DotA 2 optimization would be better for your computer and made an intuitively simple setup. There is a slider for four positions. On the left side, “speed,” on the right side “quality.” Just pull and choose how to optimize DotA 2. The more speed, the more the quality of the picture suffers, the more the quality of the picture, the less the game speed. By speed, I mean performance.
Dota 2 optimization is not tricky if you use the slider, but still, there are several settings under it that can be turned on or off at your discretion.
Of the important ones, which do not particularly affect the performance, but at times improve the picture of the game, this is of course-smoothing. Smoothing is responsible for the contours of models and textures, making them smoother and more pleasant for a view.
Something that can affect performance and the number of frames per second is additional visual settings, such as High Water Quality, World Illumination, Ambient Occlusion, Shadow Quality, and Texture Quality.
Water quality is mostly useless but very demanding, and this feature can be turned off. And you will not lose much.
The illumination of the world, this additional illumination, which is not particularly noticeable during the game, visually improves the picture, but seriously, do you play DotA to look at the glare of the towers?
Occlusion, it is generally beyond my comprehension, this feature makes the shadow deeper, even though the shadow as such I recommend turning it off.
The quality of the shadows and textures, about the shadows we have already figured out what about the textures? They remove the blurriness of the surrounding world.
The conclusions suggest themselves; in DotA 2, the optimization is well done. It is evident that at the maximum settings you will see a straight cartoon from Pixar studio, if everything is set up correctly, the beautiful picture, flora, and fauna look very natural. But all these settings that will visually delight you significantly affect the performance as a whole. With 1920×1080, playing at the minimum settings will give you 85+ frames per second, and at maximum, this value will drop FPS to 25+, which is a disastrously small indicator and moreover, in percentage terms, it looks intimidating.
When is it worth thinking about what to change in settings? When your FPS is consistently below 60. Then you will have to reduce the quality of the visual effects so that the game speed is acceptable. Turning off the “atmospheric fog,” “lighting in the world,” “population of the environment,” you will not lose the quality of the picture but increase productivity.
By the very requirements, the game will ask you for 2GB RAM, but of course, optimally 4GB, dual-core processor and 1GB video card. With such an assembly, 40 frames per second with a good picture in DotA are assured for you, and with the necessary optimization about which you read above, you can play comfortably.
🧩 Go to “Control Panel”, find “Additional System Parameters” there, go to the “Performance” tab and apply by clicking “Provide the best performance”. Here the magic begins, you turn off all visual beauty of the computer itself, and at the same time reduce the load on RAM and CPU.
🧩 In the tab “Advanced system settings”, “Advanced” select “Virtual memory” further “Modify”, in the section “Automatically select the size of the paging file” remove the checkmark, select a hard drive with the Dot directive, select “Specify size”, in the windows of the original and maximum size specify “8096” and in principle after clicking “set” and “OK” you can restart the computer for the settings to take effect.
🧩 First we recommend to reduce the load on your PC as described in the first two points, and then go to Dota 2 settings in Steam. To do this, open Steam, in the library, left-click on the properties, and set the following parameters for starting the game: +dota_embers 0 +engine_no_focus_sleep -console -high -novid +fps_max 220 -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -freq 60
